"I discovered that the most interesting music of all was made by simply lining the loops in unison, and letting them slowly shift out of phase with other." (Steve Reich)

Steve Reich is doubtlessly one of the most important composers of the 20th century. His music is considered as Avant-garde of the so-called Minimal Music. Especially his early pieces stand out and put the audience into a mediative state. Through drifting apart and overlays,

the consistent rhythms and melodies result in a sound that aims to enable a conscious perception. The composer has distanced himself from Minimal Music as his “sound universe” goes far beyond the continuous sequence of curt melodic and rhythmical elements. Rich is interested in Bach’s music as well as in Stravinsky’s; he likes jazz just as hip hop. As Composer in Residence he meets the participants of the Ensemble Modern Acadamy, who present their results of their work at Transart.
