“Life on this earth first emerged from the sea. As the polar ice melts and sea level rises, we humans find ourselves facing the prospect that once again we may quite literally become ocean.” (John Luther Adams)
John Luther Adams is one of the most interesting composers of our times. Become Ocean, commissioned by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra in 2013, won the Pulitzer Prize for Music and the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Thanks to the suggestive power of this music, performed by the Haydn Orchestra and aided by the magnificent staging that Transart has developed for the festival’s inaugural performance in the industrial spaces of the Officine FS, the audience will be projected into breathtaking suggestive landscapes of Alaska and the Pacific Ocean.
Before Become Ocean a percussion quartet will perform Coyote Builds North America, another Adams composition, inspired by stories and legends of Alaskan natives.
