AN AVALANCHE FROM THE ROOF

*** ‘An Avalanche from the Roof’ will take place at TRANSART 2017! The static tests with the artist Roman Signer shed light on higher costs than what expected. Festival Transart and the artist Roman Signer wish to present this extraordinary project at its best; we will put all our effort to present it during TRANSART 17. ***

Nature is the favorite atelier of Swiss artist Roman Signer. The four classical elements of earth, water, air and fire often represent the start- and end- point of his works of art, and they occupy a defined period of time. His works (he calls them temporary artworks) do not aspire to be eternal. But their spectacular nature means that the emotions and sensations that those works create in the viewer, as well as the visual testimony of pictures and videos, do become immortal. Despite their impermanence, thus, the temporary works of Roman Signer acquire an eternal dimension. Two years ago, in 2014, Signer staged a “battle” between a pianist adrift on a small raft and a helicopter on the lake of Vernago. This year, Singer is back with a project which is literally explosive: he will create an avalanche on the roof of a stable in Brunico. His work often contains a subtle vein of irony, and it won’t likely be absent in An Avalanche from the Roof.
