She never wanted to be an icon or role model. Yet the American musician, poet and artist Patty Smith has been revered and celebrated since the middle of the 1970s, the age of punk and new wave. She lived in the famous and infamous Chelsea Hotel, and was part of the inner circle of great artists such as Janis Joplin, Allen Ginsberg, Sam Shepard and Tom Verlaine. Her extraordinary career began with her first album Horses (1975), which helped launch the punk rock movement. Her song “Because the Night” became an anthem of the age. In 2007, she was inducted into the Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Fame. In 2009, she met a band from Arezzo called Casa del Vento at a festival in Florence. Fascinated by the group’s potential both in terms of communication and its sound, she eased into a unique artistic collaboration with them. For her newest album, Patti Smith developed two gorgeous, very powerful ballads together with Casa del Vento. The lyrics and vocals by Patti Smith and the musical arrangements of the group interweave, creating a very special, intense sound. The fruit of this one-of-a-kind collaboration will now be heard in concert.
