The perception of the horizontal as an interpretation of life. With Different Trains Steve Reich translates the concept of music adapting the symbol of a journey without end, reminiscence of a childhood spent on American trains, whilst in Europe the terrible destiny of a train towards the holocaust was impending over the Jewish. Morton Feldmann delimits the horizontal celebrating his music as an art of the surface with Rothko Chapel, composition written for the octagonal space in Huston where Rothko’s last paintings found place. With a choral admonition, Felix Resch invites us to get over the horizon, constructing a bridge towards unknown worlds. The piece for string quartet composed for the occasion by Arnaldo Felice closes the circle, going back to the “horizontal”.

In collaboration with Museion

The Perception of the Horizontal is a thematic exhibition showing twenty masterpieces of the last two centuries. Its hypothesis is that the perception of the horizontal is related to the experience or the projection of sensation, calmness, silence and even transcendence. A “slow” exhibition, which denies a hasty gaze. From Jan Dibbets to Wim Wenders.
