A key chapter of “La Cucina Futurista” by F. T. Marinetti and Fillìa is Luciano Chessa’s starting point for the composition of an opera-with-no-opera-singers, in which the original futurist text is stretched to its extreme consequences.
Five women and five men cross over a grove of reeds to meet for a silent lunch in the enchanting Castle of the Monticolo Lake, in South Tyrol.
In the capacity of master of ceremonies, Luciano Chessa will lead the ten guests in a journey that touches upon meditation, storytelling, folkloric-ritual art, body art, Medieval mysteries, peep shows, Big Brother-esque television references, and the style of ‘manor house mystery’, a classic narrative trope borrowed from the literary genre of mystery tales. After the first meal, the group will undergo a two-days fasting that will culminate with a multisensorial Cena Oltranzista (extremist dinner). A network of spy cameras and microphones will document and stream the whole experience on the web in real time. Participants have very diverse professional backgrounds, coming from the fields of the contemporary arts, sport and science.
The project Cena Oltranzista will begin with the presentation of the partecipants at Contemporary Art Museum MUSEION, Bolzano. The ”extremist dinner” that closes the project is the only section of the opera that will be accessible to a live audience.
