Transart 2004
transart04

Transart, festival of contemporary culture, has reached its fourth edition starting from September 2004, as usual in the name of music, dance, theatre and visual arts. All conceived projects – with a contamination of genres as its leitmotiv – will be performed and interpreted in unusual places, dislocated in the Trentino – South Tyrolean region, between Brunico, Merano, Bolzano, Trento and Rovereto.

Ilya and Emilia Kabakov show for the first time in Italy their installation “20 Ways to Get an Apple Listening to the Music of Mozart”: a eulogy to the philosophy of the absurd, Mozart’s music builds up the soundtrack. Kabakov’s project is shown within an exhibition – special project for Transart04’s edition – articulated at various sites with the partaking also of Iannis Kounellis and his specifically created project “Without a Title 2004”: a bridge between arte povera and the world of music. Always through Mozart, and this time with his Requiem, here’s the inspiring source for Hans Jurgen Syberberg’s video installation. Sound is the founding element of Anna De Manincor’s work, too, who installs a series of big cocoons viewers will be allowed to enter and they’ll let themselves go to a world of sound caresses. Anton Soloveitschik – Marina Abramovic’s pupil – will perform “Sawphony” with a string quartet as the protagonist destroying instruments instead of playing them. You can visit the exhibit from September 12 to October 3.

Windkraft Tirol Orchestra open the festival with their world premiere performance of a work by the Russian composer Sofia Gubaidulina “Stunde der Seele für 63 Bläser und Mezzosopran”, to follow another world premiere performance by the Windkraft Südtirol of the work “Studi per l’intonazione del mare” by Salvatore Sciarrino, composed for 100 saxophones 100 flutes a flute quartet a sax quartet and a countertenor: over 200 musicians thus translating into music the sonorities of the sea. Peter Ablinger writes a piece for piano and electronics inspired to the voice of Ezra Pound, performed on piano by Nicolas Hodges right at the Tyrol castle where Pound lived. Electronic experimental music and videoart, the protagonists of an evening with a selection of young DJ’s and VJ’s of the east countries underground scene. Maja Solveig, Kjelstrup Ratkje perform with an all women Norwegian “d.o.c.” trio, ironically called Fe-mail Trio. The angel of the story is the title of a work by Vinko Globokar: the angel is transformed into music thanks to the interpretation of the SWR Orchester of Fribourg, while it translates into image thanks to Iannis Kounellis’ installation: music and spatial concept merge into a single element. The Portuguese Miguel Azquime takes us on a trip to the depth of the soul through a train of words and sounds. Maya Beiser creates on the music of known contemporary composers, like Pärt Reich and Lang, a multimedia show: an actual queen of the cello surrounded by a court of abstract video images. “Dry Clean Show” is the title of the performance/fashion parade of the Berliner Lisa D who through costumes she designed, video, and the music by the Berliner ensemble zeitkratzer builds a show which wants to rethink with irony and criticism the commercialization processes linked today with the world of fashion. Robin Rimbaud, Scanner in art, draws inspiration from Nicolas Baker’s book, “Double Fold” to give life to an actual sound diary. Again multimedia and contamination of the genres with the “N” project developed by Granular Synthesis together with the renowned Ballet Preljocaj, Italian premiere in Bolzano to end the festival.

Transart and the contemporary music festival Klangspuren (North Tyrol) also this year thanks to their partnership offer a single pass allowing those who are interested to enter shows in the north and south of the Brenner at a lower price.

Transart – Klangspuren: the new geography of contemporary culture which from Jenbach stretches down to Rovereto.
