Transart 2003
transart03

Brussels, Oslo, Moscow, Johannesburg, New York, and Barcelona: geographic coordinates of an imaginary map of contemporary culture, for the second time traced within the geographic-cultural area of Transart_03. At its third edition, the festival proposes a rich overview of experimental and avant-garde projects in the field of contemporary art and music. Transart_03 appointments happen in dislocated places in the entire region, and in unusual locations. Among these, the historical workshop of the train station in Bolzano, the underground Parking Thermae in Meran (recently transformed in an alternative art gallery thanks to the “art drive in” project), the Stahlbau Pichler new polycarbonate pavilion, the very recent wine cellar Manincor in Caldaro, the huge Finstral warehouse in Borgo Valsugana, and the inside square of Mart in Rovereto.

The only thematic topic crossing the whole program resides in the attempt of tracing on the geographic chart of our daily lives, new coordinates among otherwise distant points: the ICTUS ensemble interprets a ten voice free dance by exorcizing it through a screen projection; TORYER transforms a train workshop into a surreal lounge thanks to the use of a Power-book; DJ SPOOKY explores the boundaries of a sonorous imaginary; BIT20 stretches the bow of Scandinavian contemporary music; LAURIE ANDERSON, accompanied by the STUTTGARTER KAMMERORCHESTER, follows the traces of a renowned airplane pioneer; FRED FRITH, DMITRI PRIGOV, and DROR FEILER get lost in solipsistic deliria amidst words and music; KENDELL GEERS and RED SNIPER develop an audiovisual prototype showing the phenomenon of a televised implosion on identity; LA FURA DELS BAUS and WOLFGANG MITTERER revisit Euripides’ drama – the Bacchantes, through a curious cast formed by twenty-five authors, two musical bands and a chorus of children; EVAN PARKER, great Free Jazz interpreter, together with the Norwegian videoartist KJELL BJØRGEENGEN develop a musical concept evoking images from memory.

Transart is a platform for contemporary culture, which is partly linked to pre-existing structures and institutions, thus strengthening them, which for years have promoted contemporary art. Member of the recent network ACROSS, Transart_03 cooperates with:

– MUSEION, Bolzano, for the opening of the first Italian one-woman exhibition of the Finnish video-artist Eija-Liisa Ahtila

– MeranoArte, within the opening of the show METAPHYSICS

– Artesella, contextually within the – art in nature course – which is biannually renewed

– MART, through the co-production of the Evan Parker & Kjell Bjørgeengen project

Transart and the contemporary music festival of Kangspuren (North Tyrol) have this year increasingly strengthened their partnership through the offer of a unique pass which will allow all those who are interested in taking part in the shows, both being performed north and south of the Brenner pass, to enter at an extraordinarily advantageous price.
Transart – Klangspuren: the new geography of contemporary culture, which from Jenbach drifts all the way down to Rovereto.
