Sonic Youth>
New York anno 1981: Punk’s dead, New Wave is here. Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon form the Sonic Youth together with Lee Ranaldo. Their aim is to redefine the concept of noise; not as a band, but as an avant-garde project where each and every member takes his own part. Sonic Youth-songs are characterised by a constant shift between protection walls, experimental noises and smooth melodies in an interplay of delicate melodies and fussing experimentation. Their music is somehow hypnotic, there’s a certain balance between melodic and noisy elements. One of the band’s principles is to free themselves from all musical chains; Indie-vidualsim is of utmost importance. This results in a rich soundscape of experimental and emotional-associative music. The sound of Sonic Youth breaks barriers and defies the logic of conventional rock songs. That’s noise-art at its finest.
