In 2013 the composer Benedict Mason embarked on a journey to the remote places of the Val Martello. Deeply struck by the ruins of the Hotel Paradiso, a spot of Pompeian red lying among the wild woods of the valley, Mason accepted the invitation to prepare an artwork for this scenario. The architect Gio Ponti built the hotel in 1935, a work of plastic art, which is why in 2019 the sound architect Benedict Mason finally wrote its musical counterpoint. Exploring the acoustic and musical possibilities of space, the composer will gather a real infantry of musicians, with 36 hunting horns, 24 tubas, 24 horns and a choir of 60 people who will dialogue with internationally renowned soloists in this gigantic score surrounded by the natural landscape.
For security reasons, which have been raised by the owners of the Hotel Paradiso we decided to perform the piece by Mason in the Latemar region, which is still evocative and which was recently hit by a hurricane.
