What would you do if you were given the opportunity to immerse yourself in the life of a complete stranger through just a short conversation? What questions would you ask?
A phone booth, a list, and the possibility to call people from all kinds of backgrounds: “Give me a call” brings the phone booth back to public city squares in an unprecedented guise thanks to the work of various South Tyrolean artists. The phone booth opens up the possibility of an intimate and personal dialogue with another person: discovering who they are, asking them questions, listening to them, and making themselves heard. What’s life like for a truck driver? And what about for a nurse, for a politician, or for a student? What’s it like in that part of the world and in that moment? What doors could your voices open?
We are living through a time in which we continue to isolate ourselves more and more, minimizing contact with other people (exacerbated of course by the pandemic), and our social networks have begun to act as a form of one-way communication. “Give me a call” gives us a chance to rediscover interpersonal communication and to be both curious and open towards the stranger on the other end of the line, a unique experience of exchanging thoughts and stories that would otherwise be overwhelmed by the noise of the world.
The telephone booths are open for seven days. From 10:30-12:30 you can call one of the other booths and have a conversation with a random citizen. From 5 to 7 p.m. they can reach one of our callers. Pick up the phone and call!
