> Sergej Newski Franziskus Kammeroper, Scenes I-III with libretto by Claudius Lünstedt
Sergej Newski places the strikingly humble St. Francis of Assisi in the spotlight with his chamber opera Franziskus, with libretto by Claudius Lünstedt, commissioned by the Franciscan provinces of Austria and South Tyrol. “God, dear God, I am a worm not a man. I thank you, thank you dear God for for for…the sweet sensation that lures me up into the spheres…”
The chamber opera will be preceded by a piece for a cappella choir by South Tyrolean composer Felix Resch entitled Horizontale Verschiebungen (Horizontal Movement), which calls personal horizons into question in order to face new challenges. The evening’s conductor, Johannes Kalitzke, remembers his dear friend and patron Carla Henius with his piece Memoria: he uses sound to express his irreversible loss at her disappearance and his feeling of nostalgia when he finds her again.
