EINSTÜRZENDE NEUBAUTEN > LAMENT
Afterconcert with Mister Alex
Barely audible at first. Afar, an indefinable noise is to be heard. Steadily, the noise grows louder, pounds and rattles. Slowly and menacingly the war rumbles along, with tanks and mounts, until the crisis explodes with shells and artillery. 392 beats later, the killing comes to an abrupt halt. Bang! This is what it sounds like when the band Die Einstürzenden Neubauten grapples with the outbreak of WWI. The concept is simple, but ingenious: a beat in four-four time conforms one day. Each nation is assigned a plastic tube; if the nation is involved in the war, the tube is hit. What in fact is nothing else than acoustic military history, invites people to move to the stoical progressing rhythms.
